Martin Smith:  [laughs] Yes, I think so. I believe so, yes. What an amazing journey it’s been, and to have

been a part of that team, and some great guys, and to have just been to so many countries and seeing so many people touched by this music.

The Beacon:  Looking back over the last17 years what stands out as being a particularly wonderful moment for you and the guys?

Martin:  Yeah. As you say, it’s just been extraordinary, really, all the amazing places we’ve been to, the experiences we’ve had. I mean, a couple of highlights for me would be playing in India, a couple of years ago, and there were 400,000 people in the crowd. Another highlight would be playing in a stadium in Holland with thousands of people waving white flags, and opening a medical center in Mumbai with the profits from our last record. So there’s just been some amazing experiences. I’d probably need to write a book just to sort of get my head around what’s happened.

The Beacon:  You just released your “History Makers: Greatest Hits” CD. How did you narrow it down?

Martin:  [laughs] It’s been very, very difficult to nail it down. And in fact, I took one look at the list of 120 songs and I sort of thought, “Oh, I just don’t know whether I’m the right person to do this.” So I did hand it off to people that I knew would enjoy that process, so the list that you see is pretty much their choice.
